Managing My Computer

This course will help you manage and organize your files and computer better so that you can be more organized in your daily life and for work.

What we cover

Through-out the 6-week course you will gain a deeper understanding of the different types of files, how and where to save them and to understand more fully about saving to the ‘Cloud’.

It’s a practical and hands-on class where you will get on top of your own computer and put a plan in place to keep it organized.

We will work through problems together as a group which is a useful way of learning and building confidence.

There will be work and activities to do in between classes to get the most out of the courses content.

You will feel more confident in using your computer and learning so useful tips and tricks.

This course is open to anyone eager to learn how to use and maintain their own computer better. But you are not expected to be an advanced learner. The aim of the course is to fill in some gaps, be a useful refresher and build confidence.

Files & Management. 

An overview of different file types and the folder structure within your computer. Learn where things are saved and how to keep things tidy.

Office applications

Learn how to create documents and spreadsheets for free with online tools and Libre Office.

Troubleshooting
How to research and solve problems for yourself.

File Storage

An overview of the Cloud and different types of storage to keep your files organized, accessible and safe.

 

Managing Photos

How to download, transfer and organize your photos and memories.

Induction & Assessment:

There will be a full induction before the course starts to ensure you have all that you need, you know the support that is available at that the course is suitable for you.

We run weekly drop-in sessions at different venues across South London.

Questions

Is this for me?

The course is open to local residents that are eager to learn how to use and maintain their own computer better.

This course is for computers running Microsoft Windows 7, 8 or 10.

This is an active learning programme and you will be expected to complete the activities in between classes as well as conducting a self-audit of your laptop.

You will be provided the support you need to complete these exercises.

It is important for people to have a commitment to their learning, ability to engage with the programme and can attend all 8 classes.

What prior knowledge do I need?

You are expected to have your own computer and internet access, as the objective of the course is to learn who to use or manage that better.

But you are not expected to be an advanced learner.

The aim of the course is to fill in some gaps, be a useful refresher and build confidence. So there is something for everyone.

You will also need to have access to a webcam and microphone to participate in the classes. Many laptops have this built in already.

You are expected  to

  • Be able to access the internet and conduct a basic search unassisted.
  • Be able to send and reply to email
