Staying Safe Online supports learners to increase their awareness of the risks, what to look out for and build confidence in keeping themselves safe online.
Through discussions, practical activities and demonstrations you will explore different topics such as scam messages and social media safety in a friendly and supportive environment.
Our hands-on approach gives you an opportunity to feel more confident in navigating and managing your devices independently, and you will be provided with useful resources to support this.
This course is open to anyone wanting to know how they can keep themselves safe online, fill in some gaps or overcome barriers they are facing in using their computers, tablets or smartphones.
What we cover:
Following completing the course, learners will be invited to attend other Connect Up activities to extend their learning.
Understand what you share
Learn about digital footprints, why it’s important to think before you share things online and managing social media settings.
Browsing Safely
What to look out for when browsing the internet, how to trust a website, accepting cookies and taking ownership over your browser settings.
Keeping devices protected
Understanding the risks and how to keep your devices protected, antivirus software and running updates.
Keeping accounts secure
Developing a password strategy, finding what works for you, account recovery and additional security features.
Scams unravelled
Overview of how scammers try to trick us, different types of scams and identifying a scam message.
What to do in a crisis
Overview of how scammers try to trick us, different types of scams and identifying a scam message.
Throughout the course, there will be plenty of opportunity to put what you learn into practice, get your questions answered and then help with the next steps of your digital learning journey!
Induction & Assessment:
There will be a full induction before the course starts to ensure you have all that you need, you know the support that is available at that the course is suitable for you.
